Mino Paper Art Village Project, Japan: Artist in Residence

I am a British Fashion Designer and Creative Director currently working as Artist in Residence as part of the Mino Paper Art Village Project in Gifu Prefecture, Japan. The concept of the project is to integrate the traditional skills of Mino Washi Paper into contemporary art and design as well as allow a collaboration between the local community and International artists.
My Japanese adventure began September 2010 and will run for 3 months in which I will stay with my host family, The Takahashi's, in the local Buddhist temple and work from a studio in the old streets of Mino alongside 3 other artists.
During this time I will be working on my project which is transforming Mino Washi into textiles and garments which will later be exhibited here in Japan alongside creating my entry into the annual lantern exhibition. Other activities include paper making workshops and working with the local schools.
This is my photo blog documenting my time here as Artist in Residence....
